Hilti Outperformer gives me the perfect combination of technical and management tasks. In my first year and a half, I’ve worked in a technical development role, where I feel I’ve really been able to contribute to the project, while of course learning loads. As an engineering graduate, this has been my comfort zone, if you like. After a very helpful discussion with my mentor I moved into a marketing role for my second assignment in the program. Next I’ll move into a management role, which might be supply chain or project management, something I’ll discuss with my mentor very soon.
Hilti’s HR team were really helpful with my move here. I didn’t have time to visit beforehand or to look for accommodation. So I told them I was concerned about settling in and that I wanted to live in a shared apartment, and they put me in touch with all the right people. Even if you don’t find a place to live before joining Hilti, they’ll put you up in a hotel for a month, so you’re always well looked after.
I see more and more women join the industry, so these are exciting times. This kind of diversity is an obvious asset really, because it generates more ideas, different perspectives. To me, working in construction, and being out and about on site, feels completely natural.
In my ten years at Hilti, I’ve worked in finance, customer service and now sales. This kind of variety is not at all unusual here.
I start my day at around 7.30am, which is when I’ll review my plan and where I’m going. I usually know which customers I’m going to visit and I spend a lot of time with them, not only in their office but on site too.
It’s all about forging relationships with our customers, understanding their businesses, seeing what they do every day and getting our hands on the tools. It’s by building this picture that I can come up with the solutions they need. It’s also really fun.
At Hilti, it’s never hard-hit, one-off selling. It’s about partnering with customers for the long term, making their lives easier and helping them grow their business.
